St Euphemia Bell Tower
Rovinj, finally seen as a peninsula.
From St Euphemia’s bell tower, Rovinj’s celebrated old town finally reveals its shape: tight roofs on a peninsula, harbours on either side and small islands beyond.
The story
Rovinj is famously photogenic at street level, but the tower changes the subject from architecture to urban geography. The compactness of the old town, its relationship with the sea and the line of the coast become obvious from above.
Local tip. The ascent is part of the experience and may not suit everyone. Allow people to pass, keep hands free where practical and check current access arrangements before relying on a tower visit for a tightly timed sunset.
The view, light & timing.
Best photo position
Look for roof patterns and harbour curves rather than only a full panorama. A normal-to-short-telephoto focal length can create cleaner compositions than an ultra-wide lens.
Golden hour
Best light: late afternoon. Clear air and good visibility matter as much as colour; arrive early enough to watch the scene change rather than chasing one exact minute.
Worth the detour?
One of Rovinj’s most informative views, not merely one of its prettiest.
